Department Description

The district attorney directs prosecution of crimes in the county. The work involves evaluating cases, deciding the program for prosecution and representing the Commonwealth’s interests in court. The district attorney makes prosecution decisions and sets policies for caseload administration. Most investigative work is done by police agencies, because the DA’s office has only one investigator. The county victim/witness services program is handled through the DA’s office.

Services Provided

The district attorney:

  • Prepares and presents cases before the court
  • Sets policies for criminal prosecution and law enforcement
