About the County Library

It is the mission of the Bradford County Library to provide high quality library service to all county residents, to encourage the sharing of resources through cooperation and partnerships and to serve as a point of access to meet the cultural, information, educational, and recreational needs of all Bradford’s residents.

In 1941, the Bradford-Wyoming-Sullivan County Library was established, largely due to the efforts of Dawes Markwell, who was the library’s director for 30 years. The second library director, Fanna Proper, served the county for another 30 years. Originally located at the back of the County Manor, it occupied a small space to support its primary service, the bookmobile. When the manor needed to expand, the library was forced to relocate. Temporary quarters in an automobile showroom followed until the current building was finished in 1986.

County Library Services

The Bradford County Library collection includes adult and children’s books, DVDs, audio books on CD and cassette tape, Reference materials, Local History materials, magazines, daily and weekly newspapers, microfilm and much more.
Through their website, Bradford County Library has access to many online databases.
Our other services include interlibrary loan, eight public computers, and outreach to schools, including daycares and head starts.

The bookmobile provides library service for approximately 25,000 residents through 35 regularly scheduled stops, and presents storytimes at 11 preschools. The bookmobile also attends special community events, typically more than 15 yearly.

There are currently only 7 computers available for public use. Business and for profit groups may use the conference room for 4 hours at a fee of $45 per session, or $65 for the day during the library’s operating hours. There is not a fee for local nonprofits who need to utilize our conference room.

Our Policies

Books, audio books, and educational videos and DVDs check-out for two weeks.

Our reference and local history materials may not be checked out, but may be used and photocopied in the library.
