Healthcare

Bradford County is fortunate to be the home of Guthrie, a non-profit integrated health care delivery system that currently includes three hospitals, more than 440 physicians and mid-level providers, 32 regional provider offices in 23 communities across Pennsylvania and New York, home health and home care services, and a research institute.

 

  • The 254-bed Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre is a Regional Level II Trauma Center and Truven Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospital and offers a full range of diagnostic, medical and surgical services.
  • Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital is a full-service community hospital that provides inpatient, outpatient, skilled nursing, critical care, surgery, radiology, specialized therapies, emergency care and emergency medical transport services.
  • Guthrie Troy Community Hospital is a Level IV Regional Trauma Center located in Troy, offering 24-hour emergency services with 24-hour laboratory, radiology and ultrasound support; imaging services and medical/surgical services.

In addition, Bradford County is home to several PhysicianCare, P.C. offices as well as many private practice physicians and specialists.

Education

Bradford County has seven well-regarded public school districts and three parochial schools. Many of the public schools are known for their engineering and arts programs, and there’s a friendly rivalry among the schools’ athletic teams – especially when the football teams get under the lights on Friday nights.

 

When it comes to secondary education, there are three colleges/career centers in Bradford County, but many others within two hours or less, including Pennsylvania College of Technology and Pennsylvania State University, and on the New York side of the border SUNY Binghamton and Corning Community College.

If you like a nice mix of small cities, historic towns and villages, and the great outdoors, Bradford County is right for you. With more than 54,000 acres of state game land, three parks and 900 acres of county-owned land, the area has a strong tradition of hunting, fishing and other outdoor recreation.

 

The county also offers a multitude of arts and cultural offerings, including three historic theaters that show first-run movies as well as offer live performances. Plenty of family-friendly restaurants and a growing winery and brewery scene also enliven the county. For those who want to venture farther afield, New York’s beautiful Finger Lakes region is nearby.

 

When it comes to shopping, Bradford County is a great place to be. There’s no sales tax on clothing purchased in Bradford County, and you can patronize both family-owned stores and national chains like Lowe’s and Walmart. Elmira or Horseheads, N.Y. are just under and hour away, allowing you to find anything your heart desires.
